Scouting's Journey to Excellence

Scouting's "Journey to Excellence"

is the BSA's performance recognition program designed to encourage and reward success and measure the performance of our units, districts, and councils. It is replacing the Centennial Quality Awards Program as a means of encouraging excellence in providing a quality program at all levels of the BSA.

Journey to Excellence, changes the basic way we measure and recognize success in the Boy Scouts of America by moving away from measuring process and moving to measuring performance. JTE provides specific information to help you understand the criteria and exactly what data will be used to determine the four levels of performance, did not achieve, Bronze, Silver and Gold. In planning your strategy, use actual numbers from the previous year to guide your performance improvement goal planning. In each area, your Unit may qualify by meeting a specific standard or by showing measured improvement. Areas of measurement include; Advancement, Retention, Training, Camping, Service Projects and Physical Fitness.

The next step is to enter your unit’s JTE data as the year progresses. This will assist you to determine how well your doing throughout the year. It’s a great suggestion to do a monthly update and then present the results at your next Committee Meeting for review. Monthly updates should be shared with your Unit Commissioner and District Executive. The Colonel Drake District wishes to have all Units become Bronze or higher in 2014.

Finally, your success is very important to your Unit and the District. Please advise us of all successes and ask for help if you need it.
