Exploring is the career education program of Boy Scouts of America. We offer hands on career experiences that students can't get anywhere else. Students are immersed in a particular career field and get to meet with local business leaders, educators, and those who work day-to-day in a career of their interest. They'll have the opportunity to practice what they might do in that career and ask questions that can only be answered by those who've experienced the career first hand. Exploring is open to any student age 14 to 20, male or female. You do not have to be a Scout to be an Explorer; this is an entirely separate program. Below is a list of all programs available in Erie County this school year.
St. Vincent’s Health Careers: This is an incredible program that takes students through various departments within St. Vincent’s health system. Students will get hands on practice in several careers and the opportunity to meet with department heads from around the hospital. New this year, the students will get to use several robotic surgery tools including the DaVinci robot.
Erie Institute of Technology Trade Skills Careers: This is a brand new program that will focus on trade careers including: Welding, RHVAC (refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), Electrician, CNC operation, Auto Body, and a class on FAFSA/ Financial aid workshop covering the basics of how to apply for those things. Students interested in this program must contact Jared Magoon directly at email@example.com or 868-5571 before December 1st.

If students are interested in fire fighting or emergency services as a potential career, they can contact me directly and I will connect them with the leadership of this program to arrange for a meeting.
Police Explorers: They will be holding an additional sign up night in December. We are currently working to re-work the schedule to fit into a more traditional Explorers calendar. However, they do offer a year-round Law Enforcement program that is exceptional for anyone looking to enter that type of career. Students may contact me directly in the meantime should they want to schedule a visit. The next available visit would be November 12th at 6pm.

Working directly with University faculty, students will learn about plastics and mechanical engineering, computer sciences (including gaming), Geotechnical and Structural engineering, and Traffic/Environmental engineering.
